A short adventure game based around characters created by RKG Video.

Finchy Quest has been created for the Nintendo Game Boy using GB Studio. Feel free to play it in the browser or download the .gb ROM to play the game on a Game Boy emulator (such as OpenEmu or GBCC).

For the best experience you can flash the ROM file to a cartridge and play it on your own Game Boy, or for those with an Analogue Pocket device, a .pocket file is also available below.

Nice game, keep it up 😊😊

Thanks!

Played it through, missed a bench, though. I had a lot of fun with your game – a lovely genre mix with a good dose of turns (much to my delicate taste) along the short journey. Assets very well put to use (and kudos for the idea with bundling them in a collection; »best practice!«, I plan to adopt that). Those portraits effectively gave the creeps, platforming surprisingly annoyed at times… and that is where I would stop the game (thanks, plenty of bonfires!) two times to continue roughly half a day later – driven by overall atmosphere and the curiosity what would await next; and I was surly not disappointed. Hey, and even that cartdrige oozes dedication – looking really nice. Great work!

Thank you so much! It's awesome to hear that you enjoyed it! ❤️

Hey, my pleasure – thanks for the fun time! Looking forward to anything upcoming! If there’s platforming involved, I’d +1 for a less floaty jump, though. :)

Btw, the reference to RKG Video is still kinda opaque… is there a more clarifying link (to a video, comic, etc.?!) where these characters (that afterall inspired your game) had their debut?!

It's quite a niche thing!

RKG has it's origins as a series made by three friends that were working at IGN mainly known for creating "Let's Play" videos of them tackling the FromSoftware games such as Dark Souls and Bloodborne.

Eventually the three friends (Rory, Krupa, and Gav) all left IGN to start their own company (called RKG Video) funded by their community on Patreon, continuing playing more of the FromSoftware games including Dark Souls 2, Demon's Souls and Elden Ring.

The characters that they created for these Let's play videos (all named Finchy), have all been given backstories by the friends, and are the characters that inspired these games.

There's now hundreds of hours of the Finchys and their adventures across both channels, but the very first episode is this one:

Oh, that’s great – thanks for sharing (including the historical first one… 9 years ago… geesh)! I checked the website before and all I indeed saw was Let’s Plays and thought that can’t be it. Missed to make the connection to FromSoft’s infamous character builder(s)! Ha!
